Hon. Ebenezer M. Chamberlain
• One of the earliest practicing lawyers in Elkhart County
• Judge of the District Court
• Rode the circuit on horseback
• Born in Orrington, Penobscot County, Maine on August 20, 1805
• Father was Col. Joshua Chamberlain of Brewer, Maine
• Married Phebe Ann Haskall on November 28, 1838
• Phebe’s father was Amasa Haskall of Leroy, New York
• Elected to State Senate in 1839
• 1844 was a Presidential Elector from Indiana
• 1851 resigned the bench
• Elected to Congress in 1851 to represent the Tenth District of Indiana
• Died March 14, 1861
• Buried in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana
